What is Stage Right:
In 2005 the Stage Right program to introduce at-risk youth ages 10-15 to arts and cultural events was created in partnership with the Dallas Police Department. Together, DSM and DPD are “Raising the curtain for education and spotlighting the appreciation of the arts through experience and positive quality lifestyles.” The students entering the program are recommended by Dallas area teachers, counselors, the Phoenix House and other youth programs including Boys & Girls Clubs and Dallas Recreation Centers as part of their ongoing efforts to keep students from joining gangs, getting involved in drugs and crime, or engaging in other activities that prevent their enjoying success in school. Stage Right seeks to raise awareness of the arts, increase appreciation for different lifestyles and also increase self esteem.
How Stage Right Works:
In association with the Phoenix House, Stage Right students participate in a summer-long program highlighting achieving your dreams through Positive Action. With the help of the Broadway League, students are provided with art supplies as well as a DREAMGIRLS study guide to navigate their way through positive action in their own lives.
Stage Right welcomes youth from these organizations for the 2010 Stage Right Program featuring DREAMGIRLS:
West Lake Boys and Girls Club
East Dallas Boys and Girls Club
Frazier Courts Boys and Girls Club
Oak Cliff Boys and Girls Club

Stage Right also had a poster contest, Catch the Dream:
Stage Right students participated in the Catch the Dream poster contest which highlighted the students’ dreams through their artwork. The winners are displayed in the main lobby of the Music Hall at Fair Park. The two winners, Dajaha Bryley from Frazier Courts Boys and Girls Club and Dheryl Batts from Juanita Craft Recreation Center, got to eat with the cast immediately following DREAMGIRLS.

Stage Right and DREAMGIRLS:
300 students attended a performance of DREAMGIRLS on July 10th, 2010. Beforehand, the students enjoyed a wonderful meal provided by M Dining at the Music Hall. They then were welcomed by Michael Jenkins, President and Managing Director of DSM, and were presented with a program that highlighted theatre etiquette. Immediately following the show, the students enjoyed a wonderful Q&A with 7 members of the DREAMGIRLS cast!
